OCTOBER IS BREAST CANCER MONTH

Here are 7 breast changes you should never ignore:

  • A new lump or thickening in the breast or armpit.

  • Dimpling, puckering or an orange peel texture on the skin.

  • A noticeable change in the size or shape of one breast.

  • A nipple that has recently turned inward.

  • Spontaneous nipple discharge, especially if bloody.

  • Persistent redness, swelling, scaling or a nipple rash.

  • New persistent pain concentrated in one area of the breast.

Never skip your mammogram screening! Yes, I know, it frign hurts, but it's so worth it!

In Canada you are eligible for mammogram screening from age 40 to 74 and usually you have them every 2 years. Some women have dense breasts, meaning their proportion of glandular and fibrous tissue compared with fat, is higher. Dense breasts are associated with higher breast cancer risk AND cancer is harder to detect. It is recommended that you get an ultra-sound as well as a mammogram.
